Not Your First Option!

When determining when to bugout, we need to remember one thing in particular- bugging out should not be our first option! We need to be proactive by ensuring we’re at a safe location so bugging out and uprooting ourselves is the last resort. With that out of the way, let’s delve into when it’s a good time to bugout!

Threat Indicators

Analyzing our surroundings and collecting intel from multiple sources is key to making the decision to bugout or remain where we are. This includes sources such as local and national weather stations, news stations, intel from neighbors, radios, HAM radios, social media, private and public forums, personal reconnaissance, and more! The reason we prep to is to be proactive so we’re ready for what life throws at us. Being proactive with our intel gathering is vital to information reconnaissance.

Actionable Intel

When collecting intel we need to recognize which intel is actionable. Actionable intel is information we can effectively make strategic decisions with. This is going to be concrete evidence, not rumors or misinterpretations. Always verify all data before considering it actionable intel! This will play a vital role in determining whether or not we bugout. After identifying our actionable intel, we need to review our bugout indicators. Whilst comparing our actionable intel and bugout indicators, this is when we make our decision.

Bugging Out

After we compare actionable intel with our bugout indicators and we’ve made the decision to bugout, we need to follow all protocols. We create protocols in order to establish rules and guidelines. Following these rules and guidelines will ensure we have an effective, safe, and successful bugout operation. After bugging out we should review the steps we took and how we can improve them. Complacency is not an ally of preparedness, never stop improving!
